Experts tell us that our earliest interactions with our environment determine our ability to learn, to regulate our emotions, and to be psychologically healthy. Early childhood experiences between 0-3 years alter gene expression., shape brain architecture, and affect long-term development. The Montessori approach during these early years is a world-renowned, peaceful, developmentally appropriate, and practical way to support children during this precious time. Even the youngest children can begin their journey to independence. Our Toddler House provides a peaceful special space where young children develop skills and play a meaningful role in their own care as well as the care of the classroom environment. The children are naturally drawn to the child-size work to engage with. Replicating their parents’ work such as preparing food, doing dishes, watering plants, etc. These activities are driven by the child’s innate nature. As the toddlers gain independence in the toileting and otherwise caring for themselves, they simultaneously begin to gain confidence to do things for themselves.
In our Toddler classroom, children explore a carefully prepared environment that satisfies their senses and curiosities, while supporting the development of concentration, problem solving, vocabulary building, self-regulation, and social responsibility. At AMI’s Toddler classroom, we care for ourselves, our friends, and our environment while we explore movement, language, geography, science and the natural world, math, music, gym, and art.
Children in the Toddler classroom can attend three or five days a week. 8:30-12:00pm, 8:30-3:00pm or 8:30-5:30pm. The Toddler classroom is led by a certified Montessori lead guide. A Spanish and a Physical education teacher also gives lessons weekly.
